Power Yoga | Sat 9:30am

This is a relatively strenuous yoga class which will get your inner fire burning.

It is a modified ashtanga style class which is suitable for people who already have some experience of yoga. Some aspects of the class are the same each time, for example the sun salutations as warm up but there are also variations on poses class to class. It is quite fast-paced and so there isn't much time for adjustments so it is best if you already know the basic yoga poses.

This class focusses on strength, stamina and flexibility. It is great for yogis who want to push themselves and runners, cyclists, climbers or other athletes who want to balance their practice.

Kundalini Workshop

A monthly workshop where Lydia will guide you through a 90 minute Kundalini workshop.

More about the practice:
Yoga is, at its core, a spiritual path- a sacred journey to self realisation. It is a devotional practice of movement, breath work, mediation, kriya, mudra and chanting.

Kundalini yoga not only offers incredible fitness benefits, it embraces the wholeness and holiness of yoga, it touches every layer of our being and connects us to our soul.

Kundalini yoga corresponds to the seasons and the elements in ayurveda, through the profound power of dynamic meditation and chanting we can experience our full transformational potential, awakening to the sacred rhythm of nature, our chakras and life force energy.

A little bit about Lydia:
Kundalini Yoga arrived in my life as a teenager and I've been teaching Kundalini yoga since 2009. In 2019 my life changed when I retreated to Scotland, I met my now husband and began my mother's journey.

I am a mother of daughters living in the Highlands and it is now with greater self realisation and embodiment of the tools and technology of Kundalini Yoga that I've never felt more inspired to teach.

Sundays
11:15 - 12:45
£15

The workshop is on Sundays at 11:15 after our community yoga (an intro to Kundalini). Both classes are designed so that you can attend them individually or come along to both for only £20 for a transformative morning.

Upcoming Sessions:
Sunday 28th June
Sunday 26th July

Skillful Hands-On Assists

Not all hands-on assists are warranted, but when you have consent, a well-informed, skillful assist can help your students to better embody yoga asanas on their own. In this teacher’s tune up, we’ll discuss how to approach hands-on assists from an “energetic alignment” perspective, identifying the key actions and energy lines of yoga postures and understanding how to help your student experience the subtle dimensions of each pose.

We’ll get hands on and practice assists in the key poses of yoga with a focus on establishing consent, balancing Sthira (steadiness) with Sukha (effortlessness) and the importance of empowering your students with knowledge rather than just doing the pose for them. We’ll spend the majority of our time practicing assists, so please dress for movement and if possible take a few minutes to warm up before our session begins. This workshop is open to all yoga teachers.

Beginners Yoga

About Beginners Yoga...

Do I need any yoga experience? No - this class is especially for beginners. You can come to it for as many sessions as you want. Catherine aims to help you build good yoga foundations, in a relaxed, fun, and informal atmosphere - so you develop yoga knowledge, confidence, and an idea of what other styles of yoga classes you might like to try out next.

Do I need to be flexible, or fit? No - come as you are! We'll be doing yoga in standing, lying down, kneeling and sitting positions on our mats. Catherine has taught yoga for 12 years to people of all fitness levels, ages, health circumstances, gender, etc. and welcomes everyone. She always offers options for anyone who has e.g. a sore knee, or stiff back, and would benefit from an alternative position. The Beginners class will also introduce you to other aspects of yoga, such as guided relaxation and breathing exercises.

What should I wear? Comfortable clothing, with a few layers you can take off if you get warm and put back on for the relaxation at the end. Yoga is usually done in bare feet (or socks with grippy soles), so you'll be asked to leave your outdoor shoes in the entrance hall.

What should I bring? We have plenty mats and other yoga equipment you can use in the studio. If you'd like to bring a bottle of water, or your own yoga mat, you are welcome to.

Are there changing facilities and toilets in the studio? There is one gender-neutral bathroom, with enough space to change in it if you need to.

What if I'm nervous? It's normal to feel nervous before your first class. The studio is a friendly and welcoming space. Classes are supportive and encouraging. Arrive 10 mins before the class start time, and Catherine can show you around and answer any other questions you have. We have all been beginners and remember how it feels!

Join Robin every Thursday evening - 6:15 - 7:15pm.

Chair Yoga | Wed 1:30pm

Chair yoga is an effective, gentle and accessible form of yoga which has surged in popularity in recent years. In these sessions, you’ll be introduced to breathing and relaxation techniques as well as physical exercises. Every session begins with a short period of settling in, then some exercises designed to warm up and mobilise your joints gently. You’re then led through a range of movements such as twists, side stretches, and seated leg and upper body strengthening exercises.

Everyone is encouraged to work at the level and pace appropriate for them as an individual, with the aim of reducing tension, aches and pains, and increasing physical and mental wellbeing. Sessions end with a short guided relaxation – an important and enjoyable part of all yoga classes!

If you are able to come regularly, you’ll know key exercises well enough to be confident to practise those you find useful by yourself at home, if you so wish. You’ll have improved in technique, so you’re able to work more deeply into exercises you’ve done throughout the sessions. And you’ll have had the opportunity to have fun and relax whilst getting a gentle, effective workout!

Breath & the Wider Path of Yoga

Breath & the Wider Path of Yoga: The Subtle Body

The breath is the gateway to the subtle body, and to higher states of consciousness. In this
workshop, we will look at the 8 limbs of classical yoga and we will experience the breath,
linking it to asanas (postures), meditation and chanting. We will look at gross, subtle and
causal bodies and to what is beyond.

You will learn:
- How breath fits into the wider yogic vision
- Simple techniques to prepare the body and the mind for breath
- How to practice some of the classic pranayamas
- How breath can enhance other yoga practices and improve aspects of your life such as
sleep and digestion

This is an opportunity to explore or to re-connect with the wider purpose of yoga practice
as described in the ancient texts, to refine your breath (which can enhance all aspects of
life) and to invite a meditative state, which leads to healing. No previous experience is
necessary although if you have a pranayama or meditation practice, this workshop will
refine it.

This workshop is led by guest teacher Laura Gonzalez: "My passion is in understanding yoga as a whole and being faithful to its roots; so apart from teaching ashtanga vinyasa and pranayama, I teach meditation, mantra and the philosophical underpinnings of the practice. They balance each other: from the strong asana of ashtanga, to the spiritual enquiry of meditation and the quieter, devotional aspect of chanting. I love to teach anyone curious about aspects of yoga that go beyond the body, even if they are explored through the body."
